Unlike most other software companies we believe that any bespoke application must include the source code in order to protect your investment should the worst happen. If you do not have you application's source code and the developer is unable to support you in future (is declared bankrupt, sells out, loses interest, moves overseas, get hits by a bus, doesn't have the resources, lacks expertise, etc...) then you will almost certainly have to scrap the existing development and start again from scratch. As a side benefit the source code also gives you the assurance that you won't be overcharged for future enhancements. We know of other software companies who will charge double if you want the source code - we include it free of charge!
 

Your system will include our Application Framework... a pre-developed collection of top quality software covering both standard and advanced functions... and all at no extra cost! Typically this would include error logging, version control, change control, automated update routines, checking that required Windows and database service packs have been installed, backup routines, audit routines, functions to detect and log RAM and disk space, screen resolution and so on. This type of functionality is rarely included in a specification and the average database developer will therefore not supply it. We work differently and include this type of functionality at no extra cost as a matter of course!

As an example of this we recently installed a system on around 100 machines spread over a dozen sites. We subsequently made changes to the system and the client was both surprised and pleased that all that was needed to upgrade all 100 machines was to copy the latest version onto the server; our built-in version control mechanism handled all the rest and automatically copied the latest version to each computer the next time the application was run (their other main application requires an individual visit to all 100 computers!).
