Case Study #1

Campaign Management System

  Company Profile

Lloyds TSB is a familiar high street bank and one of the leading UK-based financial services groups, whose businesses provide a comprehensive range of banking and financial services in the UK and overseas. At the end of 1999 total Group assets were £176 billion and there were over 76,000 employees. Market capitalisation was £42.4 billion.

  Business Requirements

LloydsTSB run various advertising and promotional campaigns in their branches. Campaigns can be UK wide, for example to advertise a new mortgage rate, or can just be targeted at specific branches, for example a promotion aimed at students might be restricted to branches close to a University. Each branch has a different mix of advertising sites (posters or leaflets, varying poster shapes and sizes, plain or illuminated frames, window or wall mounted, interior positioning, single or double sided, etc.). In total there are over 200 different types of advertising sites and this, combined with around 3,000 branches, results in approximately 100,000 separate poster and leaflet sites.

The requirement was for a Campaign Management system which supported the following:

Definition of a new Campaign (type of campaign, start and end dates).
Select and assign branches to the campaign.
Select and assign posters/leaflets/etc. to advertising sites.
Identify any advertising site conflicts with other campaigns
Produce print run summary manifests (total numbers of each leaflet and poster required)
Produce pick lists/delivery notes (leaflets and posters per branch including placement location)
  Produce address labels

Aldex was asked to design and implement a system to meet these requirements.

  Our Solution
Aldex developed an integrated Windows solution using Access and Visual Basic. The system met all of the requirements, was delivered on time and to budget in April 2000 and has been used by up to 15 people on a daily basis ever since. Our responsibilities covered the full project life cycle including requirements capture, design and analysis, development, testing, implementation and support.

Subsequent to the original development we have developed a number of extensions to the original concept, one of which, to add bar-coding and package tracking capabilities, is described in a second case study.

Technology used :
