Introduction This page should be read in conjunction with our resource on Business Continuity which covers general backup/restore for your database as well as discussing the various options for a standby server. |

Warm Standby Server |
|
|
Advice on purchasing and setting up the standby server,
licensing issues, etc. |
|
|
Setup and configure the secondary SQL Server
installation and database. |
|
|
Copy logins to the secondary server including the creation of jobs to
re-synchronise logins. |
|
|
Copy other objects to the secondary server as required
(DTS packages, SQL Agent jobs, etc.). |
|
|
Setup the appropriate SQL Server backup regimes for the
full and Transaction Log backups. |
|
|
Setup Log Shipping (Enterprise edition), custom Log Shipping (Standard edition),
Automated Backup/Restore via network or FTP, Database Mirroring,metc. |
|
|
Examine the client applications, work out how they connect to the database and
establish how to re-connect them to a different database name. |
|
|
Start and test the entire process. |
|
|
Create documentation explaining in detail the steps
that you would need to be taken in the event of a disaster to promote the
secondary server/database to become the primary server/database. |
|
|
Offer advice and support, either via telephone or on-site, if you do have
a problem. |
