Most developers won't provide source code.... Any application that we develop for you comes complete with source code! Most developers are reluctant to give you the source code. Some may suggest an escrow arrangement, where a trusted third party holds the source code, which is better than nothing but is easy to abuse. If you don't have the source code for your bespoke application then you are taking a serious operational risk. We have come across far too many situations where a potential customer asks us to enhance an existing application because the original developer...   has gone bankrupt   is too busy   has moved to Australia   is nowhere to be found   has fallen out with you (or probably vice versa)   does not have the necessary skills   has developed other interests When we ask them for the source code they usually look blank then say that they think they have the source code somewhere and will check. When they do they invariably find out that, no, they don't have the source code and the original developer either can't be found or is demanding an extortionate amount of money to provide it. In this situation you are 'up the creek without a paddle' and the only solution in most cases is to start again from scratch. It is essential that you have the source code for any custom application that is written for you... we include it as a matter of course!
