Would you like someone to work WITH you rather than just FOR you?
We are vendor independent and do not usually supply hardware or software and we can therefore be truly objective in our advice to you. Our main development expertise is however with Microsoft development tools such as SQL Server and .NET so we do have a bias towards these options, although if we think that you would best be served by an alternative, such as Oracle or DB2, we will tell you so and suggest that you look for a developer with that expertise. Before we can start to develop a software solution for you we need to agree a specification that states the problem that you want us to solve. However this will often only be an approximation of what it is that you actually want! We appreciate this and so we like to take a proactive role, working with you to understand and to then attain your underlying purpose, rather than just blindly following an initial specification. Many of our customers say that one of the reasons they choose us was that we actually seemed to understand what it was that they needed! We also like to think around your requirements and will often suggest options and alternatives that you may not already have thought of... although of course the final decision is always yours. For example if you are capturing names and addresses over the telephone we may suggest the use of post code lookup software to speed up data entry. Sometimes we may tell you that what you are asking for is not sensible. It may be overly complicated, too highly specified or just plain impractical. For example one prospective client sent out a specification to five potential suppliers, of which we were one, including a requirement for a server with 99.995% uptime. The other four suppliers duly submitted bids incorporating the requisite server uptime. We, on the other hand, told them that their requirements were wrong since the server was to be primarily used for the consolidation of data and was not essential for normal day to day operations, hence 99.995% uptime was unnecessary. We suggested an alternative solution, which was accepted, and this has been running successfully for over two years now. The client saved nearly £50,000 by adopting our solution, although we later found out that they did not award based on costs but chose Aldex because we were looking at what would be best for them and had the courage to tell them so. From the above we hope that you have gathered that we like to work in genuine partnership with our clients; forming a mutually beneficial relationship that we both feel comfortable with. |
